December 2014 - Alec Sozio

3DPT congratulates Alec Sozio for being named December patient of the month. Alec is in the process of a very long rehabilitation after suffering a broken femur in an accident earlier this year. He comes in knowing that some of his treatment will be painful and has made such impressive gains since he started. We are confident that Alec will be able to run out of 3DPT’s doors when it comes time for his last day. Congratulations Alec – you truly deserve this award.

3DPT:How did you sustain your injury?

ALEC:I was riding my moped in Tabernacle and I was hit by a truck that didn’t see me. I broke the bone in my thigh (femur) and had surgery right away. I had a rod and screws inserted in my leg to fix the fracture.

3DPT: How soon after surgery did you start physical therapy?

ALEC:I started physical therapy about 3 weeks after my surgery. The first few weeks were hard – I couldn’t really walk and it felt like I was so far away being able to do normal things.

3DPT:What was the hardest part of your therapy at the beginning?

ALEC:When I first started coming in my knee just would not bend. I have had to work hard on my own to get it to bend by stretching it. The hardest part has been having Ryan bend my knee for me. I basically just lay there and take it. It has really helped though – my range of motion for bending is getting close to normal.

3DPT: Is Ryan a nice guy despite the fact that he has to torture you in therapy?

ALEC:Ryan is great – he knows exactly what I need to do and has helped me get through all of the difficult parts of therapy. I was surprised to find out that he is afraid of bugs.

3DPT: What are you looking forward to doing again once you are done with therapy?

ALEC:I can’t wait to be able to run around again – I haven’t been able to run since the summer. No more mopeds for me.

3DPT:If you could have dinner with 3 people who would it be?

ALEC:My girlfriend, Ryan (my physical therapist), and Ken (another physical therapist at 3DPT that has tortured me)

3DPT:What would you order for dinner and dessert?

ALEC:Dinner would be a cheeseburger, fries and a root beer. Dessert would be vanilla ice cream. Pretty boring, but that is what I like.
