Danny Hill - March 2015

3 DIMENSIONAL PHYSICAL THERAPY NAMES DANNY HILL PATIENT OF THE MONTH FOR MARCH

Congratulations to Danny Hill for being named patient of the month for March. Danny has been an inspiration to all of us at 3DPT as he recovers from knee replacement surgery. Danny has made great progress even as he has had to fit in his PT appointments around his chemotherapy treatments. He came in when he was feeling sick, exhausted and just wanted to stay home and sleep. We appreciate you r dedication Danny – this was an easy choice this month!

3DPT: Tell us about why you had to have surgery on your knee

DANNY: I had to have surgery on my knee to have a tumor removed. I had bone cancer and they had to remove over 6 inches of my femur and I had a knee replacement.

3DPT: What was the hardest part of your physical therapy early on?

DANNY: The hardest part was probably fatigue. I was battling chemo effects. Coming home from chemo then going to PT takes a lot out of you. It was a struggle to get myself out of bed, but once I left here I would always feel better and my spirits would be lifted.

3DPT: What kind of things are you able to do now that you couldn’t a few months ago?

DANNY: Where do I start? I can walk at a fast pace, I can squat, I can ride a bike and can now walk a mile. When I first started therapy I was walking with a walker and couldn’t bend my knee enough to get around on the bike.

3DPT: What are you looking forward to be able to do again?

DANNY: I can’t wait to play baseball and get back on the field.

3DPT: We know you are a big sports fan – who is your favorite Philadelphia athlete of all time?

DANNY: Jake Voracek because he does a lot for cancer patients and really cares about people. He cares about the kids and their families. 3DPT: Describe your best moment on the baseball field.

DANNY: I like the challenges of playing baseball, they get me fired up and make me focus.

3DPT: What is your ideal dinner, including dessert?

DANNY: Hamburgers made by mom and cookies for dessert.

3DPT: What have you learned over the past year as you have battled cancer?

DANNY: I don’t know that this is something I learned, but something I’ve done is go with the flow and not worry and take each day as it comes. My new motto is “We will cross that bridge when we get there”. I also learned that there are a lot of good people out there and there are a lot of kind and generous people willing to help.
