Brooke Wasco - December 2016

3D’s Patient of the Month is Brooke Wasco. Brooke came to 3D with a pre-existing shoulder injury. She also came to us with an extraordinary work ethic and sense of determination that has helped her achieve her goal of playing softball at the collegiate level. It is that same work ethic and determination that will help her reach her new goal of becoming a physical therapist. We are very proud to announce Brooke Wasco as our Patient of the Month!

3DPT: Can you tell us about your injury?

BW: My injury is a partially torn rotator cuff as a result of GIRD (Glenohumeral Internal Rotation Deficiency). I am a softball catcher and this injury is a result of overuse and excessive throwing.

3DPT: What was your favorite and least favorite parts of your rehab?

BW: My favorite part about rehab would definitely be the staff at 3D. Whenever I walk into the clinic I always feel so welcomed. At every appointment I have a lot of fun and it's cool to have good relationships with a lot of the staff. I really enjoy the jokes and funny conversations and I also appreciate their support of me. My least favorite part would be some of the painful shoulder exercises, but I know they are necessary for rehab.

3DPT: What are you most looking forward to once you finish your return to throwing program?

BW: After my return to throwing program, I am looking forward to playing in a summer league with my old teammates and possibly getting back to playing ball in college.

3DPT: What do you want to do for work once you are finished college?

BW: Once I graduate college, I want to be a Physical Therapist. I have been going to 3DPT on and off for 3 years and I have fallen in love with PT and helping heal others. I have learned a lot over the years from being a physical therapy patient and I look forward to furthering my education in the field.

3DPT: Do you have any pre-softball game superstitions or rituals?

BW: For Cherokee softball, my pre-game rituals were pep talks with my pitcher and a handshake with my assistant coach.

3DPT: What is your favorite Christmas movie or show?

BW: My favorite christmas movie(s) are The Santa Claus and A Year Without a Santa Claus
