What made you decide to pursue physical therapy as a career? I was first introduced to Physical Therapy as ant 8th grader after injuring my shoulder playing football. I remember being shocked that I could heal myself by doing exercises and decided I wanted to help people help themselves by being a Physical Therapist. Now I realize that my 8th grade experience in Physical Therapy was the first time in my life that I went to a healthcare provider who was not giving me a medication, or a shot, or glasses. It was the 1st time I was able to take an active role in my own recovery and I have been doing so ever since, and helping others to do so as well. I love it!

What do you feel are good qualities to look for in a physical therapist?
  • Being a good listener
I can get 90% of the information I need to help you from listening to you, I just might need to guide you in the right direction to tell me the information I need to know.
  • Be a good talker
In order to help you help yourself, I need to be able to explain what treatment we will be doing, why we will be doing it and how it will help you. Sometimes treatments are counter intuitive and sometimes it is hard to understand how strengthening, stretching, or mobilizing one part of the body will affect another part of the body. It is my job to identify these areas and connect the dots for you. Example: Child with chronic ankle sprains performs hip strengthening exercises. Parents wonder why we are strengthening the hip when the child hurt his/her ankle. I need to explain why we are doing this and how it will help to prevent another sprain, how we are working toward injury prevention as much as we are working the treat the current injury.

What are your interests outside of work?
  • I live in Collingswood, NJ with my wife, Coleen, and dog Jetty.
  • I am a fan of all sports with College and Professional Football being my favorite, as well as College Wrestling. I played just about every sport growing up and continued to play football in College. Now I run, bike and lift weights for fun. I completed my 1st marathon 2 years ago and have no intentions of running another, I prefer ½ marathon or shorter and have been thinking of doing a Tri-athlon.
  • I have been spending my summers at the Jersey Shore since I was a child; nothing beats it!

***Along with co-owners Jeff Sallade and Ken Guzzardo, Chuck is the only therapist in south Jersey who is a certified specialist in both orthopedics and sports by the American Physical Therapy Association.
