What made you pursue physical therapy as a career?
I used to be a competitive figure skater, and while I was lucky enough to avoid any injuries requiring physical therapy, I developed a passion for learning about the human body and its capacity for movement. I worked as an aide while in college and was fascinated watching therapists explain to patients that their knee pain was actually being caused by a weakness elsewhere in the kinetic chain. This experience made it clear that physical therapy was something I wanted to pursue. I also value that quality time that I get to spend with my patients each week, because I firmly believe that getting to know my patient aides in my ability to treat them.

What do you feel are the most important qualities in a physical therapist?
I think that a good physical therapist needs to be a good listener, be creative, and be compassionate. When I ask you about your reason for coming in, I want to hear all of the details. Usually with careful listening and picking up on specific details, I can begin to develop a plan for my examination and treatment. I also want to hear your goals for physical therapy so that we can make sure we are constantly striving towards achieving that goal. Therapists also benefit from being creative. Sometimes things don’t go as planned- and that’s ok! If I’m aiming to target a certain muscle group and the exercise I chose is simply not working, it’s time for plan B or C or D! Creativity allows me to come up with individualized exercises that best suite you and your anatomy. I believe that compassion is key- I understand that I am not just treating a pathology, rather I am treating you as a person and I will do whatever it takes to allow for you to achieve success.

What are your interests outside of work?
  • I love being outdoors! Whether it’s camping, rock climbing, hiking, or most recently skiing.
  • Being from California (San Francisco Bay Area), I’m a die-hard SF Giants fan so I enjoy doing any and all things Giants related!
  • I still enjoy figure skating for fun. I have recently taken up long distance running and have completed 5 half marathons so far, with a full marathon on the bucket list….
