Why I became a Physical Therapist

In high school, I taught adapted swim lessons to children with disabilities. I was amazed at how therapeutic it was for the participants. I had one particularly memorable experience where a boy with autism who was nonverbal said “blow bubbles” during our lesson. It was the first time he had ever spoken and his family was overjoyed. In addition, I was a student Athletic Trainer and varsity swimmer (who suffered my share of shoulder injuries). Physical Therapy was the perfect way for me to combine my interest in sports injuries and rehabilitation, and work with children with special needs.

What do you feel are the most important qualities in a physical therapist?

While our medical knowledge is integral to perform our job, I think being a good listener and demonstrating compassion towards others are essential attributes. In addition, flexibility and patience go a long way, especially in the pediatric setting!

Personal interests/hobbies

I enjoy spending time with my husband and two daughters, whether it’s travelling to Disneyworld, or the Jersey shore. In my spare time, I enjoy cooking, crafting, exercising, and DIY projects.
