Brice
What does it really take to bounce back from a season ending injury and fight your way back to the field? Just ask Brice. A student athlete at Rutgers Camden and a member of the baseball team, Brice has attacked his rehab with the same grit and focus he brings to the game. Now 19 weeks post-op, he is deep into recovery after an ACL reconstruction and a medial meniscus repair. From day one, Brice has shown up with a positive attitude and relentless work ethic, never backing down from a challenge and consistently pushing himself one rep at a time toward his goal of returning to baseball.
In Brice’s case, his ACL tear required surgical reconstruction using a graft to restore stability to the knee. For his procedure, a portion of his own quad tendon was used as an autograft, a common option for high level athletes due to its strength and ability to support a safe return to sport. Along with repairing the medial meniscus, which acts as a shock absorber between the thigh bone and shin bone, rehab requires a careful balance of protecting healing tissue while steadily progressing strength, motion, and stability. Early phases focus on managing swelling and restoring range of motion before advancing into strengthening, balance, and sport specific training. Brice has embraced every phase with patience, resilience, and determination, making his drive to get back on the field impossible to miss and earning him a well deserved Patient of the Month recognition.
Throughout rehab at 3DPT Haddon Heights, Brice has worked closely with his physical therapist, Isabelle Da Silva, who understands the demands of student athletics, having played collegiate tennis at Rutgers. That shared understanding has helped support Brice both physically and mentally as he works through a demanding recovery process. His consistency, focus, and trust in the plan have made him a standout patient and someone our entire team has been truly impressed with.
Brice shared how a long rehab journey reshaped his mindset and brought him one step closer to returning to the field:
1. Tell us about what brought you to physical therapy and how this has affected your life.
I had ACL reconstruction surgery after I tore it during my college baseball season. This affected my life pretty significantly because I was unable to walk and perform a lot of everyday things.
2. Tell us a little about your recovery process. What has been the hardest part of your therapy? What was your favorite part of physical therapy?
My recovery has been pretty good, I feel like I’m making good, steady progress. The hardest part of my therapy so far was the beginning, right after surgery, since I couldn’t walk and had to basically wake my leg back up. My favorite part so far has been seeing myself get back to more intense physical activity and the progress that I have made.
3. What advice would you give to other people who suffered similar injuries or going through the same situation?
Some advice that I would give is to stay positive and to also stay consistent in your rehab process.
4. Share a fun fact, bucket list item, or goal you want to reach!
One thing on my bucket list is to travel the entire length of The Loneliest Road, a road that goes from Maryland to California.
