Tyler Williams – 2024 Olympics Hopeful
In just a few months, the world’s top athletes will come together to compete in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris! Competing in the Olympics is the pinnacle of an athlete’s career and an opportunity of a lifetime that many only dream about.
But sometimes dreams come true… And this month’s 3DPT Patient of the Month is on his way to seeing that happen!
Tyler Williams is a professional Hammer Thrower and former 3DPT patient. This June Tyler will be competing in the U.S. Track and Field Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon in hopes of earning a place on Team USA!

What brought Tyler to physical therapy and how this affected his life:
When Tyler first walked into 3DPT West Berlin in 2021, his PT Dr. Dan Deitz would not have guessed that he was an elite athlete training for the Olympics. Due to a back injury, Tyler was in immense pain, bent over and unable to stand up straight! Tyler went for months of not being able to stand upright, lay on his back or stomach, let alone continue his training for Hammer Throw. The injury happened at a time when Tyler was excelling in his training so to completely stop was a discouragement for sure.
Tyler’s recovery process:
Tyler ended up having surgery for his injury and afterward he and Dan got to work, focusing on core strengthening and stabilization. Tyler was used to training hard but his PT program forced him to focused on skills that were outside of his comfort zone. Knowing that Tyler was aiming not to just get back to normal, but to continue to train as an elite athlete, Dan reserached and designed a program that mimicked the movements Tyler would need in his Hammer Throwing training.
