Why I became a Physical Therapist
I worked in automotive repair and maintenance for 13 years and found enjoyment in helping people and working with individuals/families in their individual situations to get back to getting around safely. Though, I found I can only help so much given the scope of the industry. With my wife’s encouragement I went back to school to finish my undergrad and obtain a doctorate in Physical Therapy. I have endured a number of injuries myself and was always intrigued how certain movements and exercises were beneficial and also amazed at the complexity yet simplicity of the human body. Vehicles and human bodies are completely different, but at the same time, the process is quite comparable – come and ask me how. With this career switch I am able to further help individuals build upon their individual situation to get back to moving safely.
What I feel are the most important qualities in a physical therapist
Open-mindedness: the understanding that people are individuals with different views, thoughts, opinions, and lived-experiences. Compassionate, driven, and willing to continue ‘turning over more rocks’ to find the best route for the individual at hand. Honesty and reliability is at the core – without this where is the belief and trust that your best interest is being upheld
