Cupping

Cupping is a form of manual therapy that involves using suction cup-like devices to create an environment of negative pressure, which draws the skin away from the fascia and muscle to help improve blood flow and release muscle tension. Cupping therapy promotes blood flow to the tissues in the area targeted, to reduce pain following the intervention. The process occurs through suction of the skin which below breaks open small blood vessels known as capillaries. During the process, you may feel tightness of the skin in the region being treated, that is due to the suction. Afterwards, bruising can be expected due to the significant increase in blood flow to the area as well as soreness from the suction.

The cups can be left in place (dry) or one cup can be dragged along a small region of skin (running) to address the tissue with a different, broader approach. Cupping therapy can be a valuable service to help promote tissue healing and recovery after an injury or help restore balance to the muscles with chronic conditions. This combined with other services provided by 3DPT will help to decrease pain and accelerate your recovery.
