Performing Arts and Dance

Dancers and performing artists require great amounts of flexibility while still maintaining adequate strength and control to move safely and with proper technique. Overuse injuries are common in performance artists due to repetitive movements that lead to stress on tissues in the body. If you are a recreational or competitive dancer or participate in performing arts, we at 3DPT can help prevent and treat injuries to ensure a successful performance season. A number of 3DPT physical therapists, Dr. Elena Markoulis and Dr. Christina Diamantis, have had first hand experience in the competitive dance world and understand the rigorous schedule a performing artist goes through, and the implications an injury can have on their season and their peers. We offer comprehensive examinations in which we analyze movement patterns, range of motion, stability, and strength, in order to create an individualized treatment plan. We look at the body as a whole and work with the patient to find the most efficient way to get them back to 100% and decrease the chance of reinjury. We are also passionate about helping performing artists prevent injury, and encourage anyone with chronic aches or pains that they have been brushing off to prioritize their long term performance health and come in for a consultation.

The most commonly treated injuries in the performing arts population are:

  • Achilles tendinitis
  • Patellar tendinitis/Patellofemoral pain
  • Hip impingement/labral tears
  • Low back pain
  • Muscle strains
  • Shoulder impingement
